Coalition Applauds Oregon Senate for dropping Senate Bill 442

PORTLAND, Ore—Today, an email from Senator Elizabeth Steiner-Hayward’s (D—Beaverton) chief of staff confirmed that the senator, who was also the chief sponsor of Senate Bill 442, will no longer pursue the legislation.

“We are thankful to Senator Steiner-Hayward and to her colleagues in the senate for recognizing that this particular legislation was not the right course of action, and for protecting parental rights to make medical decisions for their children,” said Bob Snee, Director of Oregonians for Medical Freedom, the grassroots coalition that came together to oppose SB 442.

“Our coalition, like the legislature and the Oregon Health Authority, believe in protecting the safety and health of all Oregon children,” said Snee. “We hope that through education and open dialogue, we can come together and develop a strategy for Oregon’s future in this regard, and look forward to developing that working relationship as soon as possible.”
